Clarens is a picturesque mountain village situated 35 kilometers from Bethlehem in the beautiful scenic region of the Eastern Free State and is easily accessible from Gauteng, KZN, Lesotho, Free State and used as a stopover for those heading to or from the Cape. During the year we have many events including the Maluti Double Cycle Race, Titanic Challenge, Beer Festival, Art Festival, and weekly Park Runs, amongst others.
Clarens on Collett is located at the 4km mark of the Park Run and within walking distance of the Clarens village square, with its many interesting art galleries, coffee shops, bars and restaurants that will satisfy every palate; as well as quaint shops that offer everything from clothing and accessories to unique ornaments; delicacies; interior décor; bedding and bric a brac. There are bakeries, butcheries, pharmacy, bottle stores, ATM's, petrol stations, and grocery shops too.
We are within walking distance of the Clarens Village Nature Conservancy, with its dam, wonderful scenery, walks and hiking trails.
Zip Lining, Quad Biking and other adrenaline sports may be arranged via Clarens Xtreme.
Some attractions in the vicinity include the spectacular Golden Gate National Park (20km) offering Horse Riding and hiking as well beautiful scenery; and the majestic Northern Drakensburg with the world-renowned Amphitheatre (105 km to Oliviershoek pass). A stop at Highland Brew, and Sugar and Cinnamon on the road to Golden Gate is highly recommended.
The Lesotho Highlands Water Project tunnel outflow is 4 km from Clarens on the Bethlehem road., close to Andes Cafe and Baris Cheese Farm. All three are worth a visit.
A drive in the opposite direction to Fouriesburg (36km) to visit one of the fabulous restaurants and cheese and wine farm offers magnificent scenery. Fouriesburg also offers wonderful hiking at Meiringskloof
to the spectacular water tunnels. We are also close to mountainous Lesotho (42km to Caledonspoort border post and only 8km from Fouriesburg).
The IONIA Cherry Farm is located in Ficksburg (40km from Fouriesburg) and is open daily during the Winter Months. The Annual Cherry Festival is in November. Sandstone Estates offers a great day out with Steam Train trips as well as a museum and rides in military vehicles including ratels and tanks at various times of the year.
